It is very important to follow up with the interviewer after your interview. You want the employer to remember you and sending a brief email or letter will ensure they do.
The thank you note should be an email thanking them for their time and their consideration of you for the position.
Example:
Good afternoon (Mr. or Ms. Contact Name):
Thank you for meeting with me in regards to the (title of the internship) position. I appreciated your time. I am very interested in the internship program and hope to be considered as a possible candidate.

If you don’t hear from the company for a few weeks, you may follow up with an email inquiring about the status of the position. Remember to be courteous, not letting frustrations show in the message
